Metrorail services have started in Pune, the second largest city in Maharashtra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the Pune Metrorail project. Prime Minister Modi first unveiled a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji at the Pune Municipal Corporation office. The 9.5 feet tall statue was erected by the Pune Municipal Corporation. Later, Prime Minister Modi reached the Garhwar Metro Station, hoisted the green flag and inaugurated the Pune Metro Rail project.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi bought a ticket and traveled by train. Modi traveled with ordinary people from Gervare metro station to Anand Nagar station. The foundation stone for the Pune Metro Rail project was laid on December 24, 2016. The project is estimated at Rs 11,440 crore. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the first 12 km of the Metro Rail, which will cover a total area of 32.2 km in the city.
