Also, 4 monkeypox virus cases have already come to light in India. Three cases have been registered in Kerala and one in Delhi. But the number of monkeypox suspects is steadily increasing across the country.

Meanwhile, scientists have found that the type of monkeypox virus in India is different from the European type. Scientists at the Indian Council of Medical Research-National Institute of Virology (ICMR-NIV) in Pune analyzed the genome of two types of virus. At present, the monkeypox virus in India has been identified as belonging to type A.2. It came to India from the Middle East. Earlier, this strain caused outbreaks in Thailand and the US in 2021.

It has been identified that the virus that is causing severe outbreaks of monkeypox in European countries belongs to the B.1 type. This type of virus is responsible for the increase in the disease in Europe. Currently, most of the cases in the world are caused by this B.1 type of monkeypox virus. Scientists have found that B1 and A2 are completely different. The World Health Organization (WHO) has already declared this disease a global health emergency. This decision was taken by WHO after many cases were registered in a short period of time.
