Dalbir Kaur: Sarabjit Singh's sister's eyelid..a long fight with the government of Pakistan

Sarabjit Singh’s sister Dalbir Kaur died. Her funeral was held on Sunday at Bhikhivind in Punjab. She fought for a long time with the Pakistani government to free her brother Sarab Jeet Singh from Pakistani custody. However, the Pakistani government did not release Sarabjit Singh. Finally died right there. Based on her story, Aishwarya Rai starred in the lead role in the film ‘Sarabjit’. She has repeatedly asked the Indian government to release her brother from Pak jail.

Sarab Jeet, who lives in a village on the Punjab border, crossed the Indian border into Pakistan after consuming alcohol. There the forces arrested him. The incident took place in 1991. The Pakistani government has sentenced Sarabjit to death for espionage.

Sarabjit, 22, was lodged in the Kot Lakhpat Jail in Lahore. In 2013, Sarabjit was attacked by fellow inmates at the jail and died in a coma at Jinnah Hospital in Lahore for five days after sustaining severe head injuries. Although the Indian government has repeatedly told the Pakistani government that he is not a spy, the governments there have ignored him. Sarabjit’s older sister Dalbir Kaur has been fighting for her younger brother’s release for 22 years.

The Indian Foreign Ministry has asked the Pakistani government to hold an inquiry into Sarabjit’s death. However, Dalbir Kaur also demanded an inquiry into Sarabjit’s death.
