Central Government: The key decision of the center.. release all those prisoners

The Center has taken a key decision to release the prisoners who are showing good behavior in the jails. To this extent, as part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav program, the Central Home Ministry has decided to reduce the sentence of women and transgender prisoners who are above 50 years of age. The central government has also said that the prison sentence will be reduced for men over 60 years of age and disabled prisoners who have completed more than half of the entire sentence. However, the Home Ministry explained that the scheme will not apply to those who have been sentenced to death, life imprisonment, rape, terrorism charges, dowry deaths and money laundering charges.

The central government has sent information to all the prison authorities to take steps to release some prisoners on August 15 this year, some on January 26 next year, and some on August 15, 2023. On the other hand, the poor prisoners who are not able to pay the fine will also be freed through this scheme. By waiving their fine, they will be freed from the term of imprisonment. On the occasion of the completion of 75 years of independence of the country, the central government is undertaking several programs under the name of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav. As part of this program, a decision has been taken to reduce the punishment of the latest prisoners.
