Nellore district Atmakuru assembly constituency by-election is over. Polling was held from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Authorities allowed voters to reach the polling station within the allotted time. The fate of by-election candidates is enshrined in EVMs. Authorities moved the EVMs to the Strong Room at the Andhra Engineering College. The results of the Atmakuru by-election will be announced on the 26th of this month. However, 61.70% polling took place till 5 pm. More than 70 per cent polling seems to have been recorded, with those queuing up to 6 pm being given a chance. Election officials say this is the highest turnout in Atmakuru constituency so far.
As of 5:30 pm, the turnout was 2.88 per cent in Atmakur, 62.5 per cent in chasers, 65.52 per cent in Sangam, 65.75 per cent in AS Peta, 64.68 per cent in Anantasagar and 63.68 per cent in Marripada, officials said. With the death of Mekapati Gautam Reddy, who served as a minister, a by-election was inevitable. TDP did not contest while Gautam Reddy’s brother Vikram Reddy from YCP was in the ring. G Bharat Kumar from BJP, N Obulesu from BSP along with five other recognized party candidates and six independent candidates are in the fray.
