Monkeypox virus is transmitted from infected animals to humans through direct or indirect contact. Human-to-human transmission occurs through direct contact with infected skin or wounds, including face-to-face, skin-to-skin respiratory droplets.
In cases of monkeypox currently reported in endemic countries, transmission is reported to occur primarily through close physical contact, including sexual contact. Two monkeypox cases have also been reported in India. This alerted the Union Ministry of Health.
