Misfortune befell New Zealand batsman Henry Nichols in the third Test against England. England spinner Leach bowled a Nichols shot which hit the Daryl Mitchell bat on the other end and fell directly into the hands of the fielder. The umpire declared him out. Doing nothing or New Zealand player Nichols turned away in frustration. However, England bowler Jack Leach was also confused about the outing. He did not even understand how Henry Nichols got out. It also took some time for the England fielders, Henry Nichols and Daryl Mitchell, to understand what had happened.
However, according to the rules of cricket, if the ball hits the stumps or the umpire or the fielder or the other end batter and falls into the hands of the fielder. No such outing has been recorded so far in international cricket. However, in the previous ODI between Australia and Sri Lanka, Andrew Symonds did almost the same thing. The ball went straight to Symonds’ shot and hit Michael Clarke’s leg at the non-striking end and bounced into the gall. The fielder at midfield received the ball. With that Symonds turned away with a smile. But now the ball has hit the non-striker bat and gone into the hands of the fielder for a shot by New Zealand cricketer Henry Nichols. New Zealand are currently 238 for five in the first innings of the Test. Mitchell (82) and Blundell (54) were at the crease. England have a 2-0 lead in the three-Test series.
