Yogi Adityanath Sarkar in Uttar Pradesh has decided to make the national anthem ‘Jana Gana Mana’ mandatory in madrassas. The decision is being implemented in all madrassas in UP from Thursday. However, at a meeting of the Uttar Pradesh Madrasa Education Board on March 24, it was decided that the national anthem must be sung in all madrassas. The national anthem has been sung in all madrassas from today. Students were instructed to sing the national anthem together before heading to the classrooms. Formerly the national anthem was sung on Independence and Republic Day. However this big decision was taken after Yogi Sarkar came to power again.
Classes began on May 12 after the end of the Ramadan holidays. The government has directed all madrassas to comply with the national anthem from today. Orders were issued to correct the current national anthem after state Minority Welfare Minister Dharampal Singh ordered the teaching of nationalism in madrassas last month. There are a total of 16,461 madrassas in Uttar Pradesh, of which 560 are receiving government grants.
Meanwhile, Yogi Aditya Nath, the only Muslim minister in the cabinet, welcomed the Danish Azad Ansari government’s decision. “Now students in madrassas read mathematics, science as well as religious texts,” he said. He said that education in madrassas was very important for the minorities and it was crucial to educate them that students learn social values while singing the national anthem. Meanwhile, some Muslim elders say that we will start the classes by chanting Hamd (hymns to Allah), Salam (salutations to Allah). The National Anthem is not mandatory.
