Khalifa was born in 1948 and suffered a stroke in 2014. Has rarely been seen outside since. His half-brother Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed is the actual ruler. The UAE will observe 40 days of mourning following the death of Sheikh Khalifa. The ministry has announced a three-day holiday for all public and private sector entities.
