Rubaiya Sayeed: Mehbooba Mufti's sister to CBI court in 1989 kidnapping case

Rubaiya Saeed, sister of Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti and daughter of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Saeed, appeared in a CBI court on Friday and recorded her statement related to the 1989 kidnapping. Rubaiya Saeed appeared in court for the first time in this case. The next hearing of the case will be held on August 23. The court ordered Rubaiah to appear on that date as well.

Mehbooba Mufti’s sister Rubaiya Saeed was abducted by Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) militants on December 8, 1989. Yasin Malik, who is serving a life sentence in Tihar Jail in a terror funding case, and others are involved in the case. “The statement of witness Rubaiya Saeed was recorded in the court today. She recognizes Yasin Malik. The next hearing is on August 23. She identified all the four accused,” said CBI counsel Monica Kohli.

Senior advocate and PDP spokesperson Anil Sethi revealed that Yasin Malik appeared in the case today also through video conferencing. He was also requested to appear physically in Jammu in this case. In May this year, an NIA court sentenced separatist leader Yasin Malik to life imprisonment in a terror financing case. The NIA court sentenced Malik to life imprisonment and also imposed a fine of Rs.10 lakh. He was sentenced to life imprisonment twice. On May 19, the NIA sought death penalty for the convicted separatist leader.
