Along with Rishi Sunak, another person of Indian origin Suella Braverman is also in the prime ministerial race. If everything goes according to plan, there is a high chance of Rishi Sunak becoming the Prime Minister of UK.

Chancellor Rishi Sunak was one of the first to resign amid the political crisis in the UK. After his resignation, the cabinet ministers resigned one by one. This forced Prime Minister Boris Johnson to resign. With this, elections are being held to elect a new Prime Minister as well as the President of the Conservative Party. Boris Johnson’s successor is expected to be chosen by September 5.

Meanwhile, Rishi Sunak is advancing in the Prime Minister’s race. Recently, he showed his strength in the first round for the post of Prime Minister. MPs got more votes than anyone else. While Rishi Sunak got a total of 88 votes, Penny Mordant got 67 votes and Truss Liz got 50 votes. Currently, six of the eight people will go to the second round. Along with Rishi Sunak, Suella Braverman also qualified for the second round. Finance Minister Nadeem Zahavi and former Cabinet Minister Jeremy Hunt were dropped from the race.
