Rajiv Kumar will take over as the Chief Election Commissioner of India today. President of India Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Rajiv Kumar as the new Chief Election Commissioner. Former Chief Election Commissioner Sushil Chandra’s tenure comes to an end today. Rajiv Kumar’s appointment will take effect from May 15. Rajiv Kumar, who is the senior after Sushil Chandra, has been appointed as the Chief Electoral Officer in the three-member poll panel.

Rajiv Kumar is currently the 25th Chief Electoral Officer of India. The next Presidential and Vice Presidential elections will be held under Rajiv Kumar. He will also be the Chief Election Commissioner during the 2024 general elections.

Born in 1960, Rajiv Kumar will remain in office until 2025. Rajiv Kumar, a 1984 IAS batch, served in various capacities in Bihar / Jharkhand. Worked in various Ministries at the Center. Rajiv Kumar has been the Election Commissioner since 2020 following the resignation of the then Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa. Rajiv Kumar is a member of the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the Economic Intelligence Council, the Financial Stability and Development Council (FSDC), and the Bank Board Bureau (BBB).
