A UP Lucknow court has sentenced prominent politician and Bollywood actor Raj Babbar to two years in prison. Apart from obstructing the duties of a government employee, the Lucknow court recently gave this verdict in a case of assault on him. Raj Babbar assaulted a polling officer during the elections in May 1996. A case has been registered at the Wazir Ganj Police Station in UP. During the 1996 elections, Raj Babbar contested from the Samajwadi Party. Currently, he is a key leader in the Congress party from UP.

Raj Babbar was sentenced to two years imprisonment and Rs. 8,500 as fine. The court found Raj Babbar guilty of three counts of assault and obstructing the duties of a public official. Raj Babbar was present in the court hall when the verdict was delivered.
