pmgkay scheme free rice will be distributed from August 1st in Andhra Pradesh
AP government has decided to distribute rice under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKY). In the wake of Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s warning that grain collection will be stopped if rice is not distributed, the AP government has announced that free rice will be distributed to ration card holders from August 1. However, the government has decided to give this free rice to the cardholders under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) through ration shops. While there are 1.45 crore ration card holders in AP, only 88.75 lakh people have NFSA cards. With this, there is no chance of giving rice to the remaining 56.6 lakh ration card holders.

However, under the PMGKY scheme, rice distribution is not going on in AP since April. If we add it to the month of August, we have to give five months worth of rice. 25 kg of rice should be distributed for 5 months at the rate of 5 kg per month to each family member. If there are four family members in one card, 100 kg of rice has to be distributed. With the subsidy borne by the Centre, about Rs.4 thousand worth of rice will be received by the cardholders for 5 months. Ration card holders who are not covered by NFSA will have to suffer to this extent. However, the civil supplies department does not have a large stock of ration rice. That is why the officials explain that they will distribute free rice in installments by giving coupons. Meanwhile, Minister Karumuri Nageswara Rao revealed that he will tell the full details on Monday along with Minister Botsa Satyanarayana regarding the distribution of free rice by PMKAY.
