Maharashtra: శివసేన 53 ఎమ్మెల్యేలకు షోకాజ్ నోటీసులు

A crucial development has taken place in the politics of Maharashtra. Legislative Assembly Secretary Rajendra Bhagwat has issued show cause notices to 53 out of 55 MLAs regarding Shiv Sena. They want to respond to the notices within a week. 39 MLAs from CM Eknath Shinde’s camp and 14 MLAs from Uddhav Thackeray’s camp have received notices. But no notice was given to MLA Aditya Thackeray.

Recently, both the factions filed a complaint seeking disqualification of each other. On July 3 and 4, during the election of the Speaker and the demonstration of strength, both the factions accused each other of defying the whip. Notices were issued as per defection rules. The assembly secretary asked the legislators to give an explanation within seven days.

In the 288-member Maharashtra assembly, one legislator died, leaving 144 MLAs needed for a majority, while 164 MLAs supported Ek Nath Shinde in the recent no-confidence test. 99 people voted against. At this time, the Shinde faction issued notices to 14 MLAs of the Uddhav Thackeray faction for defying the whip issued by Bharat Gogawale, the government whip appointed by the Shinde faction. A day before the confidence test, Rahul Narvekar appointed Bharat Gogawale from the Shinde group as the Shiv Sena whip and removed Sunil Prabhu from the Thackeray group.
