Maharashtra: 285 MLAs exercised their right to vote

Rajya Sabha elections in four states ended peacefully on Friday. In Maharashtra, a total of 285 eligible MLAs exercised their franchise. Elections are being held for six seats in Maharashtra. With the BJP fielding three candidates, the Shiv Sena fielding two, the Congress and the NCP fielding candidates each, the contest is inevitable. Seven candidates are in the fray for a total of six seats.

Piyush Goyal, Anil Bonde and Dhananjay Mahadik won from BJP. Praful Patel (NCP), Sanjay Routh (Shiv Sena) and Imran Pratap Garhi (Congress) won from Maha Vikas Aghadi. However, another Shiv Sena candidate Sanjay Pawar lost.

A total of 288 votes were cast. 285 people exercised their right to vote. The Bombay High Court has refused to allow NCP leaders, state minister Nawab Malik and former minister Anil Deshmukh to exercise their voting right in the Rajya Sabha elections. They are currently in jail on charges of piracy, extortion and links with the mafia. Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latke recently passed away. On the other hand, the BJP has complained to the Election Commission that some Congress members have publicly displayed the ballots they have cast. With this, the counting will stop in those states on Friday. The results were revealed on Saturday.

Sick BJP MLAs Laxman Jagtap and Mukta Tilak arrived at Vidhan Bhavan in an ambulance while Shiv Sena MLA Mahendra Dalvi arrived with a cane. Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has expressed confidence that he will not be a voter as he is a member of the Legislative Council and that four candidates will win on behalf of Maha Vikas Aghadi.
