The dispute erupted over 13.37 acres of land under the Katta Keshav Dev Temple. Gopal Baba filed a petition in the Mathura Civil Judge (Senior Division) Court on September 20, 2021 to remove the Shahi Masjid adjoining the temple.

The court, meanwhile, set July 20 as the next hearing date for the case. The case was adjourned to July 20 by the Uttar Pradesh Bar Council on Friday following a work call. The case was transferred to Additional Civil Judge (Fast Track) Neeraj Gound on the orders of the Mathura District Judge. UP Sunni Central Waqf Board, Intezamia Committee, Shahi Masjid Idgah, Srikrishna Janmasthan Seva Sansthan and Srikrishna Janmabhoomi Trust are the plaintiffs in the case.

So far, 11 petitions have been filed in various courts in Mathura seeking the conversion of the mosque over the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah mosque dispute. Several petitions have called for a ban on prayers at the Shahi Mosque, which overlooks the Sri Krishna Janmabhoomi temple.
