Heavy rains and floods occurred in Assam last month. People were affected in 28 districts. Villages were under water for many days. This created an unhygienic environment. It seems that the increase of mosquitoes is the reason for the spread of JE disease. Authorities are conducting awareness programs, fogging programs and distributing mosquito nets across the state to prevent the spread of the disease.
Mosquitoes are the main cause of JE infection. Pathogen Flavivirus is transmitted from pigs to humans. The virus enters the bodies of humans and other animals through mosquito bites. The result is JE disease. It affects the central nervous system, brain and spinal cord. Death can occur if the disease is not diagnosed and treated early.
