Earthquake: పెరూలో భారీ భూకంపం.. 7.2 తీవ్రతతో కంపించిన భూమి

A massive earthquake has shaken the South American country of Peru. The quake measured 7.2 on the Richter scale. The epicenter was reported 8 miles northwest of the town of Azangaro in southern Peru. The quake struck near Lake Litika. The region borders Peru and Bolivia. The epicenter was reported at a depth of about 217 km. However, no loss of life or property has been reported so far.

Earthquakes, however, are frequent in the region. The Nazca Tectonic Plate moves 71 mm northeast each year in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Peru. Earthquakes are being recorded as Nazca and American plates collide with each other. Earthquakes occur at great depths in this region. Earthquakes have occurred in the past at depths of up to 600 km. Meanwhile, experts say that the latest earthquake occurred in the Earth’s lithosphere. Earthquakes occur frequently in the Peru-Chile region. Here the tectonics plates are constantly displaced under the earth’s surface.
