Defense Ministry: The Defense Ministry on Tuesday approved procurement proposals worth Rs 28,732 crore for the armed forces, including swarm drones, bullet-proof jackets and carbines. Keeping in view the demand to protect the Indian soldiers deployed along the Line of Control from enemy threats, the Ministry of Defense has revealed that it has decided to provide bullet proof jackets with Indian standard BIS-4 level of protection, keeping in mind the fighting in counter-terrorism situations.
It also said that around 4 lakh close-quarter battle carbines will be provided to counter terrorism in times of war along the de facto border and eastern borders. The Ministry of Defense has said that the government is ready to enhance “Atmanirbhar Bharat” to give impetus to small arms manufacturing industry in India. In recent conflicts around the world, drone technology has proven indispensable in military operations. The Ministry of Defense has decided to further develop drone technology to enhance the capability of the Indian Army.

The Defense Department has also approved the Navy’s proposal to procure an upgraded 125kW capacity marine gas turbine generator for power generation application in Kolkata class ships by Indian industry. This will give a big boost to indigenous manufacturing of gas turbine generators. The Ministry of Defense has approved a proposal for procurement of 14 Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs) for the Indian Coast Guard under 60 percent IC Purchase (Indian-IDDM) to enhance the security of the coastal region of our country.
