Only five states in the country have a fertility rate higher than 2. The list includes Bihar (2.98), Meghalaya (2.91), Uttar Pradesh (2.35), Jharkhand (2.26) and Manipur (2.17).

However, experts suggest that the population limit in the country needs to be kept in check. They are worried that otherwise the number of youth will decline. The number of people aged 35 to 40 is already declining due to family planning measures. It is a matter of concern that the number of children continues to decline with this age.
