Jagdeep Dhankhar: As the election of Vice President of India is nearing, BJP, which has been working hard on the selection of the candidate, has finally selected the candidate for the Vice President. With the process of nominations ending on July 19, the BJP Parliamentary Board met in Delhi under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday. JP Nadda announced Jagdeep Dhankar, who is currently the Governor of West Bengal, as the NDA’s vice-presidential candidate. BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and many Union Ministers and MPs participated in this meeting.

Dhankar served as a member of the Lok Sabha from Jhunjhunu constituency in Rajasthan from 1989 to 1991. Served as Member of Legislative Assembly from Kishannagar Constituency from 1993 to 1998. Also served as President of Rajasthan State Bar Council Association. He was appointed as the Governor of West Bengal by President Kovind on July 30, 2019. Jagdeep Dhankar, who has a long political experience, has finally emerged as the Vice-Presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, the NDA and the opposition have already organized the campaign for the presidential election. Draupadi Murmu is the NDA candidate while Yashwant Sinha is the opposition candidate. The election will be held on Monday. Meanwhile, voting for the election of the Vice President of India will be held on August 6. According to the schedule announced by the Central Election Commission, the process of filing nominations for the election of the Vice President will begin on July 5 and end on July 19. The victory of the NDA candidate is said to be certain as the ruling alliance has a clear majority in the Electoral College. Opposition parties and allies are likely to be approached for consensus.

The opposition parties will also meet on Sunday to select a joint vice presidential candidate. Leader of the Congress and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge said that the leaders of the opposition parties will meet on July 17 to discuss the candidate for the vice-presidential election. All opposition leaders will attend this meeting. The voting process to elect the 16th Vice President of India will be held on August 6. The results will be out on the same day. The current term of M. Venkaiah Naidu will end on August 10. The new Vice President will take charge on the 11th.
