Union Minister of Commerce, Industries, Consumer Affairs, Food, Public Distribution and Textiles Piyush Goyal has been reappointed as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha. To this extent, information was sent to Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu. Prime Minister Piyush Goyal has been appointed as the Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha as per the rules. In 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appointed Goyal as the Leader of the Rajya Sabha. However, his tenure as Rajya Sabha MP ended in April this year. Union Minister Piyush Goyal is among the 27 newly elected members of the Rajya Sabha on July 8. Goyal was re-elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state of Maharashtra. Hence he was again appointed as the Leader of the Rajya Sabha.

In his 35-year-long political career, Goyal held several important positions at various levels in the world’s largest political party, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is also in the National Working Committee of the party. He is the National Treasurer of the party. He was a member of the manifesto and campaign committees for the 2019 general elections. He also headed the BJP’s communications committee for the 2014 general elections.

Piyush Goyal, a Chartered Accountant by profession, has served on the Board of State Bank of India. His father, the late Vedaprakash Goyal, was the Union Shipping Minister and BJP national treasurer for over two decades. His mother Chandrakanta Goyal was elected three times to the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly from Mumbai. He is married to Seema, an active social activist. They have two children. Both Dhruv and Radhika graduated from Harvard University, USA.
