The cases of covid are again increasing all over the world. The number of cases is increasing steadily in India as well. Meanwhile, a new sub-variant of corona variant Omicron has been discovered in India. This was disclosed by the World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Wednesday. This variant called BA.2.75 has been identified in 10 countries besides India. WHO is closely monitoring this variant. However, it is not yet confirmed whether the new variant that emerged in India is more serious than the previous variants.
Tedros revealed that the number of cases worldwide has increased by 30 percent in the past two weeks. He said that Omicron strain sub-variants are responsible for the increase in Covid cases worldwide. BA.4. BA.5 variants are causing Covid cases in Europe and USA. Tedros said that BA.2.75 variant has been found in countries like India.

WHO Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan said that the BA.2.75 variant is different from the previous Omicron variants. Whether it causes serious infections remains to be seen. He said it would be too early to say whether this variant could escape immunity after vaccination. However, this variant was revealed to have some mutations on the spike protein receptor binding domain.
