In Maharashtra, a BJP-Shiv Sena coalition government has been formed. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari administered the oath of office to Eknath Shinde as the new Chief Minister at a function held at the Raj Bhavan. From driver to CEO ..: Satara is the hometown of Eknath Shinde, a Maratha. Their family later settled in Thane. He was away from school due to financial difficulties. He used to do small chores to support his family. He also worked as a rickshaw and tempo driver. Inspired by Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray in the 1980s, he entered politics and gradually became a key leader in the party. He contested the Thane Municipal Corporation elections and won. He was at the forefront of public movements in Thane district. Shinde, who was thus eyeing the Shiv Sena supremacy, contested the Assembly elections for the first time in 2004 and won a solid victory. He never looked back after that.
Eknath Shinde was elected MLA of Maharashtra Legislative Assembly for four consecutive terms. He won the elections in 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019 respectively. After winning in 2014, he was elected as the leader of the Shiv Sena legislative party in the Maharashtra Assembly. Later he also served as the Leader of the Opposition. Eknath Shinde, one of the prominent leaders in Thane region, played a vital role in strengthening Shiv Sena in those regions. He was recognized as a leader who gained trust in the party and the people. Shinde has a good friendship with Devendra Fadnavis. Shinde also served as a cabinet minister in the Fadnavis government in 2014.
