Srilanka: Sri Lankan pilots who saved 525 lives .. A shower of praise

Sri Lankan pilots have been praised for saving 525 lives after a major plane crash. SriLankan Airlines flight UL-504 took off from London for Colombo on the 13th of this month with 275 passengers on board. The pilots were instructed by Ankara Air Traffic Control to take the plane to 35,000 feet while the plane was flying at an altitude of 33,000 feet above Turkish airspace.

However, the Sri Lankan pilots noticed that another plane was coming at the same altitude, just 15 miles away. They immediately brought the matter to the attention of the ATC. The matter was reported to the ATC Center. But the ATC system gave it two clearances to fly up. Sensing danger, the pilots refused to take the plane to an altitude of 35,000 feet. ట

The ATC center, which detected the mistake, was told not to take off, and that a British Airways flight bound for Dubai at the same altitude was coming with 250 passengers on board. SriLankan Airlines said that if the pilots had taken the plane to an altitude of 35,000 feet as per the instructions of the ATC system, there would have been a major collision between the two planes. SriLankan Airlines said on Wednesday that 525 lives would have been lost if the pilots had blindly obeyed the ATC’s earlier orders. The pilots were praised for being punctual and avoiding major accidents.
