The remarks made by former BJP spokesperson Napur Sharma have led to serious tensions in the country. The Arab community also protested to India over the remarks. Protests and unrest erupted in several areas after Friday prayers demanding the punishment of Nupur Sharma for making indecent remarks on the Prophet Muhammad. Protests in some areas, however, turned violent. Violence erupted in Howrah, West Bengal, Ranchi, Jharkhand and Prayag, Uttar Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Jamaat Ulema A Hind convened a meeting on the ongoing agitation over the past two days. President Suhaib Qasmi has said that Nupur Sharma should be forgiven according to Islam. Representatives of Jamaat-e-Ulema-e-Hind denounced the violence across the country. Said not to take the law into our own hands. Muslim delegates welcomed the suspension of BJP’s Nupur Sharma. He said we would not allow anyone to come on the road and break the rules.
Nupur Sharma also said that a ‘fatwa’ would be issued not to resort to any violence over the remarks. Representatives of the Jamaat-e-Ulema said that a fatwa would be issued against Asaduddin Owaisi and Mohammad Madani. In addition, Muslim organizations have appealed to the government to hold an inquiry into their funding. Representatives of the organization said that Muslim organizations would not allow incitement to violence.
The situation became tense after Nupur Sharma made insulting remarks on the Prophet Mohammad during a recent TV debate show. Arab countries such as Qatar, Malaysia, Iraq, Lebanon, Brunei, UAE and Saudi Arabia have expressed their opposition to India. In response, the Indian Foreign Ministry said that statements made by individuals should not be attributed to the government.
