The central government on Sunday issued a statement saying that certain precautions should be taken to prevent misuse of Aadhaar cards. Xerox copies of Aadhaar cards should be masked Xerox copies so that only the last four digits are visible when sharing with others. The announcement drew criticism as it went viral across the country. With this the central government changed the word on Aadhaar Xerox copies.
UIDAI recently tweeted that citizens of the country are advised to give masked copies of Aadhaar instead of Xerox copies, but that common sense should be exercised when issuing Xerox copies. Many people misunderstand their statement .. so they are withdrawing the previously released statement. The central government has advised people not to use public computers to download Aadhaar cards. Do not download Aadhaar cards from computers in internet cafes under any circumstances. Warned of the possibility of abuse if done so.
