According to Sri Lankan media reports, the cabinet will be limited to 25 members, including the president and prime minister. Former minister Nimal Siripala de Silva, representing the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), and independent MPs Susil Premajayantha, Vijayadasa Rajapaksa and Tiran Alles were among the nine new ministers sworn in on Friday.
Sri Lanka is currently facing the worst economic situation since independence in 1948. There are no foreign exchange reserves in the treasury even to buy at least petrol. People are blaming the Rajapaksa family politics for the current situation. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan government is in talks with the IMF to get out of the financial crisis. On the other hand, the G7 countries have also promised to stand by Sri Lanka.
