Char Dham Yatra: Death toll rises to 31 during Char Dham Yatra కారణం Cause of Mountain Sickness

The Uttarakhand government has said that the death toll in the Char Dham yatra has risen to 31. The government has claimed that 31 pilgrims have died since the start of the Char Dham pilgrimage on May 4, of which 30 were pilgrims and another was a local. Dozens of pilgrims died within 12 days.

The deaths were attributed to ‘Mountain Sickness’ as well as other health problems, the Uttarakhand Health Ministry said. Most of the pilgrims died due to high blood pressure, heart stroke and mountain sickness, said Dr Shailaja Bhat, DG, Department of Health.

The Uttarakhand government is taking further steps. Already CM Pushkar Singh Dhomi has issued directions to the state health department. Char Dham was directed to allow the pilgrims to travel only after a thorough examination of their health condition. With this, screening centers have been set up on various routes to test the health of the passengers. Rishikesh ISBT has set up screening centers in Pandukeshwar areas to check the health condition of passengers.

The government has said it will only allow those who are fully fit to travel. The government advises pilgrims to rest for a few days if they have any problems.
