5G Auction: Over Rs 1.49 Lakh Crore bids for spectrum.. Auction to continue tomorrow too

5G Auction: By the end of the third day of the 5G spectrum auction on Thursday, the government had received bids worth Rs 1,49,623 crore. According to Union Communications, Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav, 16 rounds of bidding were completed till the end of the third day of the auction. The auction will continue for the fourth day on Friday. Bids worth Rs 1.45 lakh crore were received on the opening day of the auction on Tuesday. Four rounds of spectrum bidding were held on the first day. Five rounds of auctions were held on Wednesday, bringing the total to nine. On the third day on Thursday, seven rounds were held and the number reached 16. The fourth day of the auction begins with the 17th round.

At the end of the first day, the bid value was Rs.1.45 lakh crore. It reached Rs.1,49,454 crore on the second day and Rs.1,49,623 crore by the end of the third day. Four companies are competing for the 5G auction. These companies are Reliance Jio Infocomm Limited, Bharti Airtel Limited, Vodafone Idea Limited, Adani Data Networks Limited. Among the bids, Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio was the most aggressive, followed by Sunil Bharti Mittal-led Bharti Airtel. The four companies together have deposited Rs.21,800 crore as EMD. More than half of this amount belongs to Reliance Jio Infocomm, India’s largest telecom operator. Reliance Jio Infocomm Rs. 14,000 crore as EMD.. Bharti Airtel Ltd Rs. 5,500 crores. Vodafone Idea Limited for 5G auction as EMD of Rs. 2,200 crores deposited, while Adani Data Networks’ EMD totaled Rs. 100 crores. The EMD amounts give a broad indication of the company’s plan to pick up spectrum in the auction. The EMD determines eligibility points through which telcos can target specific spectrum in a given circle.

The extent to which any company is not getting the spectrum will be known only after the auction is over. However, ICICI Securities has estimated that Jio is likely to get more spectrum for Rs 80,100 crore. It said that Airtel is likely to own spectrum in the 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz band with Rs.45 thousand crores. Vodafone Idea will acquire spectrum worth Rs 18,400 crore and Adani Data Networks will acquire spectrum worth Rs 900 crore, it said. It is known that the center has auctioned 72 GHz spectrum worth Rs 4.3 lakh crore this time. After the completion of the auction, the government’s target is to allocate the spectrum by August 14.
