Srisailam Shops: Lack of popularity for new stores

The allotment of shops in the famous temple Srisailam has caused a stir. Shopkeepers protested against the attitude of the temple authorities. Eventually only 24 people took part in the lucky dip of the shops, which went on amid tight police security. Shopkeepers did not participate in the whole shop auction.

Srisailam Devasthanam has a tense atmosphere from morning till evening. On behalf of the Market Shop Association in Devasthanam, all the shopkeepers closed all the Main Bazaar shops and protested. This made all the main roads look dull. They sat heavily at the Lingayat Satra in Srisailam and protested.

The shop owners are backing the temple authorities’ order to leave the old shops and move into the new ones inside the temple’s newly built Lalitambika shopping complex. The shops within the temple were asked by the authorities to participate in the Lucky Dip method and secure the shops. He, however, said that there was nowhere to leave the old shops and protested to close the shops and conduct business.

The newly built shops were unsuitable for business and shopkeepers sat in awe of where to go. Temple officials, as part of precautionary measures, maintained LuckyDip and allotted shops to only a few who were present amid police security throughout the area where LuckyDip operates. A total of 133 shops in the temple area were run by Lucky Dip while only 24 attended the shops, officials said.
