Sanjay Raut: Senior Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Sunday. Earlier it was announced that Raut was taken into custody for in-depth investigation by the authorities who conducted searches at his residence in Mumbai in connection with the Patrachal land scam case. Sanjay Raut’s wife and his close friends have been accused of huge irregularities in Patrachal’s redevelopment. In the same case, Sanjay Raut appeared before the ED officials on July 1 and gave a statement. After that, summons were issued twice, but he was absent saying that there were parliamentary meetings. Against this backdrop, ED officials reached Sanjay Raut’s residence at 7 am on Sunday. After being interrogated for 9 hours, he was taken to the ED office in Mumbai. The ED officials questioned him regarding the investigation of the money laundering case related to the Rs 1,034 crore Patrachal land scam. Raut’s arrest was announced after midnight.
Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut responded to the ED officials’ inquiries on Twitter. Sanjay Raut responded to the searches of Enforcement Directorate officials on Twitter. He alleged that he was being attacked as part of a political conspiracy. He did not do anything wrong. Shiv Sena will not leave under any circumstances. Even if I die.. I will not bow down to anyone. I have nothing to do with any scandal. I say this under oath on Balasaheb Thackeray. Balasaheb taught us how to fight. Will continue to fight for Shiv Sena,” he tweeted. Shiv Sena President Uddhav Thackeray has alleged that the ED searches are being conducted as part of a conspiracy to end Shiv Sena. Many Shiv Sena MLAs have joined rebel leader Eknath Shinde’s faction because of the fear of ED. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that Sanjay Raut is innocent but there is no need to fear the actions of ED officials.
In April, the ED provisionally attached assets worth Rs 11.15 crore belonging to Raut’s wife Varsha Raut and two of his associates as part of the probe. The attached assets are in the form of land at Palghar, Safale (a town in Palghar), Padgha (in Thane district) owned by Sanjay Raut’s aide, Praveen M Raut, former director of Guru Ashish Construction Pvt. The ED said in a statement that the attached properties include Varsha Raut’s flat in Dadar, a suburb of Mumbai, as well as eight plots jointly owned by Varsha Raut and Sujith Patkar’s wife Swapna Patkar at Kihim Beach in Alibaug. ED has already detained Raut’s close friend Praveen Raut in connection with the Rs.1,034 crore Patrachal land scam case. He is currently in judicial custody.
